What do I need to renew my driver's license at the local Office of Motor Vehicles?

​​A. You may renew your driver’s license 180 days in advance of the date of expiration. Please take your driver’s license proof of residency and proof of insurance for any vehicle you own to a local Office of Motor VehiclesAll applicants renewing a Class D and E license are required to pass the vision test. If your picture license has been lost, you must submit proper documents for a duplicate license. If you renew on time or within 10 calendar days after your birthday no penalty is due. After ten days, a penalty is due. No exceptions.

NOTE: If your license expires, you can be subject to a traffic citation.

Acceptable methods of payment are as follows: 

Credit cards, debit cards, money orders. A transaction fee will be assessed for payments made with a credit/debit card as indicated below:
Credit/Debit - $1.25 plus 1% of transaction total

Class E - $32.25 
Class D - $54.75 ($66.00 Orleans Parish)


$15.00 Late Fee is due if the license is expired more than 10 calendar days.

A local fee may apply which will not exceed $6.
