Why do I have to pay a fine to the court and a fine to the Office of Motor Vehicles?
A. If you failed to appear in court or to pay your traffic fine on or prior to your court date, the court issued an order to the Office of Motor Vehicles to suspended your driving privileges by authority of R.S.32:57.1. The fine paid to the court is for the traffic ticket and/or court cost. The fine paid to the Office of Motor Vehicles is a reinstatement fee for the reinstatement of your driving privileges.
